Golfing may seem like an easy sport. All you need to do is get the golf balls to land in the holes properly, and you’re all set.
In reality, however, there are various factors that need to be considered, such as the terrain, the weather condition, and the golf clubs that you are using.
One of the typical mistakes that a beginner in the sport of golf makes is the slice in golf. If you can’t seem to make a good shot without ruining it with a slice, here are some steps to help you prevent slices.
Straighten your back
Make sure that you angle your spine when you are about to strike the ball with your club. As in all sports, your posture will make a difference as to how you will be able to make your moves.
When you are going to perform a takeaway with your club head, make sure that your back is straight. Most young players have a tendency to bend their backs as they are about to hit the ball, because this feels normal. Although this feels normal, it will also make your ball split sideways.
Body and limb position
When you are swinging your clubs in a game of golf, always make sure that your body and your limbs are in the proper position.
This means that your wrists should be twisted slightly westwards your target, and that your shoulders should be coiled just a few degrees towards the direction of the golf club’s end. You should also make sure that the distance between your chest and your hands are constant.
Maintain the swing plane
Now that your body is in the correct position, it is time for you to make the swing. Once you swing, make sure that you follow your swing plane. Most young golfers do not actually try to visualize their swing plane. While visualizing your swing plane can take up a little more concentration and can be a bit difficult at first, it will also help you prevent exiting the plane too early.
If you exit the swing plane too early, you may either miss the ball, or you will simply force the ball to move sideward once you hit it, instead of forcing the ball to move in a straight direction.
Connect your elbows and hips
As an added tip, you should also place your hips and your elbows as close as possible when you are swinging. Most people swing with their right hands, which means that your right hip should be as close to your right elbows as possible. Don’t worry if you think that you will hit hips as you swing. This almost never happens in real life.
Finally, after your shot, try to release the golf club. If the golf club falls right on the spot where the golf ball was sitting, this means that you were able to make the correct swing using the correct posture. If you are able to do this, you will be able to prevent slices in golf.
